Chemistry is one of the oldest sciences known to mankind, and this science has evolved through the ages so that the overlap between chemistry and other sciences has become very large, and the scientific knowledge achieved in various fields of chemistry has had a profound impact on human life and well-being.
The study of chemistry is important at the present time chemistry science vital indispensable to man from the analysis of drinking water and purification to the analysis of food and industrial products and chemical industries and the end of pharmaceutical chemistry and antibiotics and the treatment of most diseases, but chemistry played an important role in the environment surrounding the human being and so it turns out that the study of chemistry and its applications play an important role in human civilization and deserves this science a special effort from the students studying it I wish success and progress for students studying in the department and progress Thanks to the faculty members, especially the first generation, who contributed to the establishment of this department and work to improve the level of the educational process.
The Department of Chemistry was opened in 1957 at the Faculty of Science and activated, in response to the tireless and accelerated steps taken by the university towards progress and scientific leadership, and to keep pace with the national needs of specialized and trained scientific cadres in the field of chemistry.
The Department of Chemistry provides an appropriate scientific, educational, practical and social environment, and includes a distinguished constellation of professors in various disciplines of chemistry, and adopts a solid study plan for bachelor's and master's degrees, which includes a wide and thoughtful range of specialized courses, and auxiliary and supporting courses, which enrich the student's perception and expand his intellectual and practical capabilities and abilities, and prepare him to become, God willing, one of the contributors to building and advancing the nation.
